Preventing alcohol-related traffic accidents
Linda Gray introduced the ignition interlock bill for extreme and repeat offenders. The interlock is a device for which:
-The offender pays the cost
-The offender has to blow into the device each time that person needs to start his/her vehicle; every quarter the daily data is downloaded and the information is available to the judge
Linda was persistent in her fight with the liquor lobbyists in lowering the extreme DUI charge to a .15 BAC level which is:
-380 times more likely to be involved in the event of a fatal accident
-The equivalent of seven drinks within one hour for an average sized person
In 2005, Linda fought to ensure that ignition interlock use is extended a year when the offender exceeds the BAC limit three times.
